Progress Update 6/04/2022
This week we've had a little slow-down as many of our developers find themselves wrapped up in the affairs of life and education. Despite that we still make steady progress, and a few fun things to show off.
- New DevBuild for our patrons:
- Fixed toxins not firing in the cell facing direction, instead they fired in the direction the cell wanted to point at
- Pressing space in the microbe stage now pauses or resumes the game
- Updated translations

Progress Update 5/28/2022
This week was another split between building out further prototypes for future stages, and continuing to flesh out the microbe stage. We don't have any screenshots to show just yet, but rest assured that the macroscopic prototype (the 3D second half of multicellular) is currently under development.
Back in the tidepool, we have a lot of quality of life improvements to the gameplay of microbe stage, including some balance tweaking on the brand new cilia organelle! Finally, we've been…

Much of our work for this week has been involved in various WIP features, such as an in-game concept art gallery and changes to the auto-evo algorithm. Don't worry though because we still have a good amount of finished additions to show off such as variable turning speed, eukaryotic damage reduction, and the new cilia part!
As your cell gets bigger, it will turn more slowly. As of now the only solution to this is to manage your size, or evolve the newly implemented ci…

We had a decent amount of progress this week with many of our WIP features like the patch map generation and engulfment, which we are very excited to see completed. This week we focused out efforts on fixing alot of the issues found in the latest release, as well as continued progress on the patch-map systems, and testing out various ways to grant benefits to cell size.
we have re-released 0.5.8.1 as there was a problem where the crash reporter didn't correctly generate crash callstacks, making the reports almost completely useless. To rectify this a tweak was made to our Godot build scripts and new builds of 0.5.8.1 were released everywhere th…

Update 0.5.8.1 is now out, and introduces a good amount of performance improvements, among other things. We hope that this significantly improves the enjoyability of Thrive, and look forward to hearing any feedback on the changes.
This week we focused on performance, and the causes behind it. We eventually discovered that the spawn system was spawning entities far faster than they could be despawned which resulted in a massive hit to performance as time went on, such is why later ge…

Ever since the release of 0.5.8 last week, we have been having a blast seeing all the cool creations players have made in the multicellular prototype. We've been getting a large amount of feedback as well, which has helped tremendously in identifying some difficulties with game performance that we have since pursued. Next week, we hope to create a patch to address some of the performance issues that players have reported, and maybe some other changes that didn't quite make it into 0.5.8…
