Progress Update 06/22/2024
It's been a quiet week after the release of 0.6.7. We've been listening out for feedback, and managed to get out a quick hotfix to correct two major issues that had been plaguing us for some time even before this latest update. Other than that, things have actually been going well. Our lead programmer is now on break for the next few weeks, so expect development to slow down a bit for the interim.
We are still on the lookout for player feedback, so if you have thoughts on the cu…

This week we've applied the finishing touches to the 0.6.7 update, with toxins as an exciting cherry on top of what will be a pretty feature-rich update. Endosymbiosis, new models, and the ferroplast organelle are some other notable features that will be officially released by next week.
Can't wait to get your appendages on these features? You can try them now by playtesting our latest release candidate currently available for download. We only ask that you let us know how the e…

This week we have made meaningful progress in further polishing the addition of the day/night cycle, alongside some other new features and fixes. Iron eaters rejoice as we now have a eukaryotic variant of the rustycyanin!
The day/night cycle is further supported with new editor tools to help players calculate how well they can outlast the night.
- New DevBuild for our patrons:
Added ferroplast organelle, which is the eukaryotic variant of rusticyanin
Progress Update 05/25/2024
This week development has been largely focused on finalizing the day/night cycle as a mainline feature, and getting some preliminary work done in preparation for larger changes further down the road of development.
There's still a few tasks that need completing before the day/night cycle is considered fully “feature complete” but it's already well on it's way!
- New DevBuild for our patrons:
Day/night cycle is now enabled by default but can still be turned o…
Progress Update 05/18/2024
This week, development of 0.6.7 has begun in earnest, and we've already seen quite a few promising features come to light! Our lead programmer has implemented a lite version of the endosymbiosis feature, which allows players to evolve eukaryotic organelles by engulfing bacterial prey that fit the criteria. Some work has also begun on the implementation of a eukaryotic variant for the rustycyanin. These haven't been found to exist in real life, but it might just go the way of the chemopl…

Bug reports have been steadily coming in and we have been hard at work fixing all of the emergent errors that have arisen from the recent engine update. We released a bugfix patch containing a great deal of fixes earlier this week, which we hope has made for a much more stable and dependable experience for our Thrivers out there. From here on, development focus shall now return to the roadmap where we hope to make great progress in making a more complete game.
As always, thank you e…

With the latest release bringing Godot 4 to the public, we've been hard at work hunting down all of the resultant bugs we have successfully located. Progress has been going great, and we are hoping to release a hotfix soon enough!
Once we have the hotfix patch out of the way, development of the roadmap features will continue.
- New DevBuild for our patrons:
Fixed organelle models looking bad in Godot 4
Did some minor organelle visuals tweaks
Devblog #41: Godot 4 is Here

After over a year since Godot 4 was released, Thrive has finally made the huge leap to go from Godot 3 to 4. This release is sadly thin on new features as Godot 4 is so different from 3 that it took a lot of time to go over everything that needed to be updated to work with Godot 4, as the automatic upgrade process was missing a ton of things. Also we needed to bugfix and tweak a lot of our code that relied on how Godot 3 worked which was changed in 4.
This conversion didn't require …

Just one more week to go before the release of 0.6.6, and good headway has been made in stabilizing the godot 4 build of Thrive. Players can look forward to some slight performance gains and some graphical changes, but unfortunately there will not be much that is new on the player's end.
We are once again publishing an early release candidate for players interested in playtesting the update before it's official release. We'd greatly appreciate if anyone interested could provide feed…
