Last week we released 0.8.1 and as is usual the week after a release has been very busy with activity. Both in terms of how much the community has played Thrive and provided feedback as well as how many Thrive developers have activated to all at once work on new changes. Sadly we found out that 0.8.1 had a critical bug where multicellular was not really playable (the second grown cell in a colony would always immediately start dying), so we had to quickly put together a patch release, 0.8.1.1 to fix the problem. The patch was released on Monday already if someone missed it.
We didn’t yet get major new features that are planned to be in 0.8.2, but we got plenty of bugfixes and one pretty big new feature: double speed mode. In that mode the game runs at double the speed. We decided to add that feature to alleviate the problem for the players who have said the game gets too slow later or is boring. We are still adding major features from the microbe stage roadmap before we start polishing and finishing up the microbe stage development later this year.
At the time of writing Thrive is still a deal of the day on Steam, so if you don’t have Thrive on Steam yet, you can pick it up for cheap right now by following this link. There’s a bit under a day left on the deal. Any purchase supports future Thrive development and ensures that even after we complete the microbe stage we won’t run out of funds.
