Progress Update 06/03/2023

Much of the development hours this week were dedicated to work on our devcenter, an important utility used by our developers to archive assets and handle supporter access to our weekly devbuilds, among many other things. While the progress might not be visible, it’s an important step in streamlining the further development of Thrive.

Clarification: the main focus of development has moved to performance related microbe stage code refactoring. All DevCenter work this week has been entirely volunteer driven.

That’s not to say we haven’t worked on Thrive though! As always, you can see the latest changes below.

Programming

  • New DevBuild for our patrons:
    • Save error dialog now explicitly tells to give us the JSON debug log as without it debugging a save failure is basically impossible in most cases
    • Fixed crashing when showing a custom window with no close button (this was a regression in a recent build)
    • Fixed 3 microbe backgrounds having non-repeating edges
    • Added support for Godot GUI tab names to be translated
    • Options menu now lazily loads available language list
    • Automatic checks now disallow gltf files as they are always worse than .glb files
    • Updated the style_guide on how to add words to dictionary to avoid typo warnings
    • Updated translations

Graphics

  • Graphics work has been going into enhancing the collision meshes of in-game objects such as chunks.
  • Began discussion of microbe backgrounds
  • The alternative game-start cutscene continues to progress! Package has been delivered…?
